Pros: The Pirastro Chorda violin string appears to be a good quality gut string suitable for a baroque violin. I am using my string for the top string of a crwth.
Cons: The length of gut is unsuitable for lutes or other longer stringed instruments. Savarez baroque oiled gut strings come in longer lengths and I can get two violin length strings for the same price as the single Pirasto violin string.

Pros: Suprisingly easy to fit to a modern violin. Stayed well in tune.Needs a little playing in and needs playing gently but thats probably so with all gut strings.
Cons: There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Other: bought as a trial of gut E string. cheap enough to risk. Didn't quite do what I wanted but that was not the fault of the seller, just my preference.

Ideal string for baroque violins

Pros: The Chorda E string was ideal for my baroque violin. The string was of more than sufficient length and easy to knot to fit the tailpiece. The string needed to be 'played-in' and re-tuned fairly frequently for 2-3 days before settling-in. The mellow sound produced by the string is clear and consistent. I would certainly purchase this brand again. Service from the String Zone is excellent.

Pros: settled nicely, matches well with my other gut strings

Other: I bought this to replace a gut string I had been using for about 15 years. During that time I have played only intermittently so it lasted well. I have been playing on gut strings exclusively since about 1987 and usually play at A415. Back when I switched to gut strings, there was no question of thicknesses or tension, there were simply strings. I have never had one snap during playing, it's usually during tuning.

Two strings in the pack!
Pros: There were two strings in this packet - that's a bonus for sure.
Cons: None
Other: I might be a beginning fiddler (as opposed to violinist), but the fact is that even to my inexperienced ear, these instruments sound best when strung up with the strings they were designed for.
