'Joule' by Coda Bow. Kevlar acoustic core and diamond weave graphite combine to produce a stick with excellent power whilst retaining sensitivity and flexibility. The JOULE evokes a performance unattainable with rational materials. Originally developed exclusively for extended range and electric instruments. This breakthrough design is capable of commanding power from the lower range while still finessing color and nuance from the upper range. Compelling on both extended range and traditional instruments, the JOULE possesses an empowering energy that must be experienced to truly appreciate.
The Coda range of bows are all made in the USA using modern materials to produce bows which offer consistent performance and reliability which inspires confidence and playing enjoyment for all standards of player. The use of man made materials for every component, hair excluded, means the bows are extremely practical in everyday use. The sticks are string and remain straight and with the correct camber. The adjustment mechanisms are precision made for smooth action and easy hair tensioning. Rehairing is in the traditional manner and any experienced bow maker will have no difficulty in rehairing these bows.

Pros: I play both electric and acoustic violins and use the coda joule for both. I also play with thcoda luma on the acoustic for a different dynamic, depending what tupe of music I'm playing. Both bows are fantastic! The joule is slightly heavier and will get more response from a five string, but is equally at home on a four string fiddle. It is extreamely well made, sturdy but elegant with its tapered shaped frog. All the moving parts glide effortlessly and it feels rich and smooth in the hand when playing. I love this bow and although it is" each to their own", as they say, I believe it is well worth testing these for yourself if you are wanting a high quality bow. You pay a good deal more for a great deal less.
Cons: I havn't found anything that I don't like about this bow.

Pros: my main violin takes a heavy bow to get the strings moving - I have even resorted to a viola bow at times. The Joule gets those strings moving and gives a clean sound, yet somehow still manages to sound good on a 19thC gut strung violin (which emphatically does not approve of heavy bows), and my 5 string Tim Phillips violin into the bargain. In fact, I now want one for all my violins!
Cons: The power comes at the expense of a little warmth perhaps (compared to my decent wooden bow or Codabow GX), but by and large, I'm happy with the trade-off.

Pros: Never tried a bow like this before. I have been struggling with finding a bow that suits my playing style and to help with my aspiration to get better at playing fiddle-style music with fast passages and double-stopping in particular. This bow feels genuinely different in your hand. It is the best balanced bow I have ever tried, more so than my wood bows. The extra weight from the frog has been added to the tip making for a really intriguing possibilities for playing towards the top of the bow - great for fast passages in reels for example. It is quite centrally balanced which also means crossing strings is great. The slight extra weight and slightly broader hair surface than a trad bow means that it gets every last bit of resonance out of your strings and my two very different violins both respond well to this. It also helps get a bit more volume out if that is something you are after. I don't think I have got the best out of the Joule yet and I am really looking forward to experimenting more.
Cons: None.
Other: Was amazed by the lack of shake or vibration in slower bow strokes - something I have struggled with.

Pros: This is a fantastic bow – ridiculously powerful... I play a 5-string and I just tried this bow because it mentioned it played well on extended range instruments – was not disappointed!

Other: (Also, loved the starter coat of rosin they put on – quite dusty but very good grip!)
