* All strings are ball end, unless otherwise specified.
The original and best known synthetic cored string. Regarded as the reference standard for this type of string. Well adapted to give excellent playing properties on any instrument.
Dominant strings give a warm and clear sound which closely approximates to a traditional covered gut string. Tonally stable and easy to play on they suitable for all players beginner to professional.
Medium tension strings. For other tensions please click the link above.
NB The set 135 with aluminium wound E is the traditional and well known version of these strings. The aluminium winding being a more suitable choice for learners as it is easier to produce a clear sound without whistles or overtones. The set 135B features a plain Chrome plated steel E which will appeal to advanced players for its clarity and projection.
Aluminium E Set with ball end only. For loop end E set please order four individual strings.
Steel E set (135B) E has a loop end with removable ball to take out if required.
To check your instrument size measure the length of the back (LOB) excluding the 'button' which is the thumb shaped extension at the top where the neck is anchored. Old instruments can vary, if more than 1/2" over choose the next size up.
4/4 - LOB 356mm (14")
3/4 - LOB 330mm (13")
1/2 - LOB 305mm (12")

Pros: These are the most popular violin strings in the world, offering good performance at reasonable cost. People don't like the E string but it works ok for me.
Cons: I have had dominant As and Ds unwind after heavy use.
Other: As a fiddler (as opposed to a violinist) I prefer Thomastik's Vision strings - livelier, brighter and in my experience more durable, and with easier and truer intonation. I have a 1750s Cremona violin and a 1880s German one and that's my preference for both. My modern fiddles have metal strings.

Pros: I love the sound and they last really well. Great strings for playing in quickly and staying in tune.
Cons: None really!
Other: Great service from string zone. Really quick in arriving and a great range of products on the website. I no longer buy strings anywhere else.

Pros: One of the cheapest on the net. Also given the option of ordering the 2 different types of E.
Cons: Not anything I can think of.
Other: Ordered a couple of weeks before Christmas as a present. They arrived 3 days after ordering. Can't go wrong with that, great service.

Pros: I am satisfied returning to the proven Dominants! On my violin with a Codabow GX and Vision strings the sound became too bright. Now the tone is more rich, mellow and balanced.
Cons: Takes a few days breaking in. I am still no Jascha Heifetz..

Pros: Good sound, easy to play, reliable quality. Once broken in, these strings stay tuned very well over time (which is very handy for young players practicing without parental help). Durable. Pleasant looking coloured silk ends.
Cons: Not sure they are worth the extra money over the Thomastik Vision strings which appear to be just as good, but are 8 Pounds cheaper for the set.

Pros: I have purchased strings at the Stringzone for several years. When I was heavily occupied with professional playing I chose more expensive strings, believing that you only get what you pay for. Now, in retirement, with less income but still a lot of playing to do, I have gone for Dominants and am finding them absolutely fine. Their tone is clear and sweet and they need hardly any wearing in.
Cons: No complaints.
Other: Good service too. Thank you.
