Description

High Quality synthetic core strings. Hydronalium on synthetic core.

Ametyst strings offer a pure and focused sound which is brighter than Karneol. Although they are intended for better instruments, they will improve the sound of all levels of violins. They have a synthetic core, and normally take approximately three days to achieve tuning stability and optimum tone quality.

To check your instrument size measure the length of the back (LOB) excluding the 'button' which is the thumb shaped extension at the top where the neck is anchored. Old instruments can vary, if more than 1/2" over choose the next size up.

4/4 - LOB 356mm (14")

3/4 - LOB 330mm (13")

1/2 - LOB 305mm (12")

1/4 - LOB 280mm (11")

1/8 - LOB 254mm (10")

Using a loop end E? The use of a protector to prevent the tuner hook breaking the string is essential with loop end E strings. We cannot accept claims for strings broken by the adjuster hook. Click here to purchase this item.

Grade 8+

Definately worth a go
15 out of 16 found the following review helpful

Pros: These strings suit my violin. I wanted a brighter tone on my maggini copy. I hadn't liked dominants or pirastro evah on my violin. I would have tried eudoxa's but didnt have the spare cash. My violin is very biased on the lower end, but I now have better balance with these strings. They are very reasonably priced.

Cons: Not really a con - but they can take a while to settle in. They may not be suitable for lower quality violins, but for the price its well worth giving them a try.

Good value strings with bright clear tone
9 out of 9 found the following review helpful

Pros: A and D have nice clear tone and very good response. All strings have a feeling of quality about them. Overall a good value set at under £25.

Cons: G is slightly less responsive and less clear on my violin (karneol G is better for me). E is good but prone to whistle - goldbrokat still my favourite.

Other: Strings improved over a 2 week period. Don't give up on them straight away if you don't immediately like them.

Very good all round strings - excellent value
5 out of 5 found the following review helpful

Pros: Very good strings that ring well and are nice to play on. Similar to Karneols but with a bit more fuzz to the sound. This is my second set. First set lasted well - over 6 months with only minor deterioration in playability.

Cons: G string didn't respond as well to the bow for first couple of weeks but is ok now. I prefer a slightly heavier/thicker e string.

Other: They take a few weeks to stabilize but not really an issue for me. The sound seemed to improve slightly over this time as well - more resonance.

A velvet brightness
3 out of 3 found the following review helpful

Pros: These produce the right level of brightness that I want for my violin. The set are well balanced, the E string is not too bright. They settled in very quickly. After two and a half years of using Dominants (which served me well) I'm pleased to have made the change; they have improved the overall tone of my violin.

Cons: None.

Good value
4 out of 5 found the following review helpful

Pros: Very good value for money. A nice, mellow sound.

Cons: E string is a bit strident.

Other: The windings on the A string wore through after 6 months of use. No worse than other, more expensive strings that I have had.

Good value for the money
2 out of 2 found the following review helpful

Pros: My third set. The G, D and A strings suit my violin very well producing just the right amount of brightness. They are responsive, easy to play and well balanced. The price is very reasonable too. All in all - excellent value.

Cons: Not really a 'con' but they took around 12 days to settle in this time. The E-string is a little 'strident' for me on this violin and it is prone to whistling, as it ages, no matter how careful I am with it.

Other: This set is well worth a try. I bought, at the same time, a Warchal Amber E string to try with the Ametyst G, D and A strings when they had settled in. See my favourable comments elsewhere on this.

Great value, quality strings.
2 out of 2 found the following review helpful

Pros: I discovered Warchal Ametyst when one of my students bought an instrument set up with these strings. I was impressed with the sweet, resonant sound and since I found out a fractional size set can be bought from the string zone for such a reasonable price, I've been recommending them to all my students. I have, today, just fitted a set to a pre-loved half size Zeller which I'm sprucing up for another student. They sound great and, in my opinion, compare favourably with more expensive strings.

Cons: None
